Waking up to a cold shower is no one’s idea of a good morning. Before you call a plumber, here are a few quick things to check at home — and when it’s time to bring in Bells Plumbing for a same-day water heater repair.
1. Check the pilot light (gas water heaters)
If your gas water heater has gone cold, the pilot light may have blown out. Follow the relighting instructions on the side of the tank. If it won’t stay lit, the thermocouple may be failing.
2. Check the breaker (electric water heaters)
Electric units can trip a breaker. Reset it once. If it trips again, do not keep resetting — that’s a sign of an electrical fault that needs a professional.
3. Listen for popping or rumbling
Sediment buildup in the tank makes it less efficient and shortens its life. If you hear popping, your tank likely needs to be flushed or, if it’s older than 10 years, replaced.
4. Look for leaks
Any standing water around the base of the tank means it’s time to call us today — a slow leak can become a flooded basement very quickly.
We stock tank and tankless units for same-day replacement. Call (385) 255-8400 for an upfront price before we start.
